Day 5: Meeting the rest of the Songs and Whispers artists

We had a lazy Monday morning today. (Oh how I love that phrase!) After a light breakfast Ben, Bobbo and I walked down to the local grocery store to stock up on bread, cheese and other interesting looking foodstuffs. Somehow it seems natural to buy healthier food when we're traveling, probably because it's easier to identify. A tomato is a tomato is a tomato no matter where you go!

We came back and laid out a nice little lunch buffet to sample our purchases, then it was about 2pm, time to head out to our show in Bremen. When we got to Litfass, the cafe where we were playing, Erik and Pete from The Monotrol Kid were already there. I forgot to mention that we met them earlier that morning when they stopped in at the flat to say hello. We were just finishing breakfast when the door buzzed.
"Hello?" I said tentatively into the intercom.
"Hi, it's Erik."
"I don't know an Erik." I'm thinking he just pressed the wrong buzzer.
"I know, you're the Fallen Stars, right?"
"Umm, yes?" Wow, we must be famous! People are showing up at our doorstep!
"We're one of the other bands, we came to say hi!"
And that's how I met The Monotrol Kid in my pajamas.

Anyway, back to Litfass. We're running a bit early so we chat with Erik and Piet for a while, then Astrid arrives followed shortly thereafter by The Hobos. Axel Kruse is the fifth artist on the bill, but he won't be showing up until later because he's coming straight from work. (Poor guy.) The show is like a little United Nations: Ben is from Australia, the The Monotrol Kid is from Belgium, The Hobos are from the U.K., Axel is from right here in Bremen and of course we represent the U.S. The music is universal though, and that's what makes it so amazing!

All the bands were wonderful and it was great getting to swap storoes with them after the show. It turns out that Bice from The Hobos comes to Newport Beach every year to visit her parents - just one town over from us!! We're going to try and do some shows together next time they come out in the fall. How cool is that?

At about 11 pm we finally headed home, stopping for an impromptu ice cream on the way home. Mmm, gelato! I forgot to mention that our new friend Wolfgang also came to the show. Wolfgang is a board game designer and he brought a gift for us, a board game he created called "Maharani." The game is absolutely beautiful, based on the mosaic tile floor of the Taj Mahal. When we got home the three of us opened up a bottle of wine, set out some bread and cheese and chocolate, and played. It was a wonderful way to finish off a completely fantastic day!
