South African Songwriter and film composer Chris Letcher returns to Bremen after a successful SONGS & WHISPERS" tour in 2011 to play a one-off concert in the Bremen Sendesaal. For this special concert performance, Letcher's travelling band will be augmented with orchestral arrangements adding lushness and contemporary orchestral textures to Letcher's wide-screen music.
Letcher has received glowing reviews for both his debut album Frieze (2007), Letcher and 2011’s full-length follow up, Spectroscope.
Recorded and mixed in London and
Belgrade by Finn Eiles (My Bloody Valentine, The The, The Duke Spirit) and Bafta-nominated sound mixer Howard Bargroff (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Letcher’s new album extends its precursor Frieze’s use of lush orchestration; strings, bass clarinets and brass sections, mbiras and singing saws, enfold drum machines and 1970s synthesizers to buttress an album of literate pop songs.
Letcher’s songs have featured recently in the feature film The Bang Bang Club (2010) starring Ryan Phillipe, and he has recently completed the score for a film by Ntshavheni wa Luruli, Elelwani, that is set for international relase later this year. Other recent highlights include a BBC adaptation of Women in Love and a six-part serial drama for Sky1, The Runaway.
Chris Letcher has toured widely, performing with amongst others Katherine Mann (Quinta) (who has also recorded and toured with Bat for Lashes, and Radiohead drummer Phil Selway), Phil Wakeman, Victoria Hume, David Webb and Andrew Joseph, who also feature prominently on the new album.
Frieze appeared in both The Sunday Times and the Mail & Guardian’s ‘Albums of the Decade’ lists, and has received extensive radio play, reaching the top 20 in the US on College Radio charts, and also featuring on the influential Morning Becomes Eclectic show on California’s KCRW, Australia’s JJJ, BBC 6 Music, and BBC Radio 3 in the UK. He is published internationally by Warner Chappell.
Frieze was also in the top position on both eMusic’s Commercial Alternative and Progressive Rock charts in the US for ten months, and Chris has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest and Toronto’s North by Northeast.

Der südafrikanische Songwriter und Filmkomponist Chris Letcher kehrt zurück nach Bremen, nachdem er im Jahre 2011 bereits eine erfolgreiche “SONGS & WHISPERS“-Tour spielte. Für sein einmaliges Konzert im Sendesaal Bremen wird Letcher’s Band mit Orchesterzubehör erweitert, was dem Ganzen eine gewisse Fülle verleiht und die Vielfalt des Künstlers noch besser zur Geltung bringt.
Letcher hat herausragende Rezensionen für seine beiden Alben Frieze (2007) and Spectroscope (2011) erhalten.
Aufgenommen und gemischt in London und Belgrad von Finn Eiles (My Bloody Valentine, The The, The Duke Spirit) und Howard Bargroff (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), erweitert Letcher’s neues Album seinen Vorläufer Frieze durch den Gebrauch von Orchester Arrangements; Streicher, Bass Klarinette und Blechbläser Abschnitte, Mbiras und singende Sägen, eingehüllte Trommelschläge und 1970er Synthesizer untermauern ein Album voll literarischer Popsongs.

It is done: „Morning Comes“ is the new record of Joern Schlueter aka SOMEDAY JACOB. The North German songwriter has been working as a guitarist and songwriter for himself and other artists. Minor hits for a girl called Sarah Brendel, records published in the UK and USA – Schlueter made himself a good name among his fellow musicians and those in the industry who worked with him. For the last two years, Schlueter concentrated on SOMEDAY JACOB, played about a hundred and fifty shows with the likes of Marc Eitzel, Great Lake Swimmers, Maria McKee, Viarosa, Adam Arcuragi, Amber Rubarth, Robert Carl Blank among others. As part oft he prolific songwriter network Songs & Whisperse he toured in Germany and in the UK with bands like The Epstein, Johnny Parry and Daisy Chapman. He made friends. He really liked it. He wants to go back. This new record was done with a full band plus a lot of help from numerous friends, amongst them Richard Neuberg (Viarosa) and Fiona Brice (Placebo, Midlake, Gemma Haynes). A number of German musicians who worked for big bands, film and theatre are involved as well, it was great fun. All you hear on „Morning Comes“ has been recorded on 2“-tape, done the old fashioned way. These songs are songwriter pop, exploring height, depth and length of the genre. Take „Wasn‘t It Today“, a spooky, Decemberists-like waltz about an oppressor – depression or addiction maybe – who realizes he has lost his power. There‘s a banjo on there, a french sounding accordion, a resonator guitar, and a fiddle. It sounds crisp and clear, yet there is something old and haunted blowing through the song. Or take the possible singles „Crossing Over Jordan“ and „Days Like These“. These are pop songs, but full of the integrity of a classic song- writer/storyteller. Or take „When The Morning Comes“ and „Fountain Years“ with Fiona Brice‘s sublime string arrangements – there‘s great melodies that always go beyond the usual, and there‘s a lyrical depth that surpasses many of the genre‘s standards. Josh Rouse, Paul Simon, Neil Finn: possible points of reference for a songwriter, who has long developed his own words, his own sound, his own inspiration. Enjoy.

Es ist viel geschehen, seit Someday Jacob im letzten Oktober ihr Debütalbum "Morning Comes" veröffentlicht haben. Applaus von der Fachpresse, Features, Tourneen im In- und Ausland: Die Menschen mögen den Indie-Songwriter-Folk der Band um Liedschreiber, Sänger und Gitarrist Jörn Schlüter.
Die Redakteure des deutschen Rolling Stone mochten das Album sogar so sehr, das sie unaufgefordert einen Song auf den hefteigenen Sampler "New Voces" kompilierten. Auch der Norddeutsche Rundfunk war begeistert und nahm ein Konzert von Someday Jacob auf, um es u. a. auf NDR 2 auszustrahlen – eine Stunde lang zur besten Sendezeit.
Die Musik auf "Morning Comes" bestätigt den allgemeinen Jubel. Sanfter Songwriter-Folk zwischen jungen Wilden wie Sufjan Stevens oder Bon Hiver und alten Meistern wie Paul Simon, dazu eine analog weiche Produktion mit Gitarren, Banjo und Mellotron: Hört sich gut an. Auf der Platte spielen illustre Freunde aus dem In- und Ausland – u. a. die Geigerin von Placebo und Midlake –, auch das steigert das Hörvergnügen.
War Someday Jacob anfangs noch ein Ein-Mann-Projekt, ist seit dem Album-Release eine Band am Start. Konzerte u. a. mit Krista Detor, Rachael Yamagata und The Epstein, ein paar Dutzend feine Abende im kleinen Club: Uli Kringler an Gitarre, Banjo und Dobro, Manu Steinhoff am Bass und Martin Denzin am Schlagzeug setzen Schlüters Lieder auf der Bühne fulminant um. Alle Mann singen, was die Menschen live oft Vergleiche mit Neil Young bzw. Crosby, Stills & Nash anstellen lässt. Kommt hin!
Im Sendesaal vergrößert sich die Band um Kate Green am Cello sowie Annika Schmidt an der Geige. Da wird der Indie-Folk konzertant, die schönen Melodien noch ein bisschen schöner. Morning comes!
