The sea is a major theme in Pollyanna’s songs, rooted in North-Western European folk (Irish, British and French) and American indie-rock music.Isabelle’s lyrics often explicitly evoke sailing and seas (Lokken, Friends, Tristan…), standing for the limit of a world as well as the hope for another one, lying beyond. In 2004, the sleeve of their first album, Whatever They Say I’m A Princess, showed a Massachussets beach, with a girl (a German friend of Isabelle’s) standing and gazing at the waves, looking toward Europe – whereas Pollyanna’s music is looking toward America. In a nutshell, that is pretty much what Pollyanna is about. Merging landscapes and emotions in quite a romantic way, exploring the melancholy of ordinary modern life. Musicwise, they are mixing various influences that are now typical ot the rising anglophone scene in France. Their second album, On Concrete, has just been launched out in Germany on "SONGS & WHISPERS".

BIO:
Pollyanna’s music evokes the damp skies and grey shores of northern Europe, but this Parisian folk-rock project has also roots in the south of France. Isabelle (songwriting, vocals, guitars), who was born in the French Flanders, spent her teenage years in the port town of Marseille, where she formed her first rock trio, John. In Paris, a few years later, she started up a more acoustic project, and John became Pollyanna. As a band or solo, she’s performed some 200 shows in France, elsewhere in Europe (Germany,Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark) and often in New-York (Sidewalk Café,Pete's Candy Store…). Pollyanna also proudly supported great shows in beautiful venues (Françoiz Breut, Julie Doiron, Wilco, Bright Eyes, Alela Diane...)----------------------------------------German version-----------------------------------------
Jahre später, in Paris, formte sich dann Pollyanna. Sowohl solo als auch als Band hat Pollyanna schon mehr als 200 Shows in Europa und Amerika erfolgreich bestritten und Fans auf der ganzen Welt gesammelt. Ihre Lieder sind in einem bittersüßen Ton geschrieben und behandeln die Lücken im alltäglichen Leben. Alles in Englisch, die Sprache Hollywoods, des Reisens, des Businesses und auch Pollyanna.
Pollyannas Musik erinnert an graue Regenwolken und die Küste Nord Europas. Motor.de gibt an, dass das Album „auf eine kleine musikalische Reise zwischen Küsten und Kornfeldern, Intimität und Offenheit einlädt“.
Meeresrauschen, die See und das Segeln sind ein sich wiederholendes Thema. Besonders die Songs „Lokken“, „Friends“ und „Tristan“ erinnern ans diese Aspekte.
Die See, das Meer und das Segeln stehen in ihren Songs sinnbildlich für die Begrenzung der Welt und die Hoffnung, dass sich hinter den Weiten des Meeres noch eine andere Welt versteckt.
Dieses Thema setzte Pollyanna auch auf dem Cover ihrer ersten CD, „Whatever They Say I’m A Princess“, um. Dort ist ein junges Mädchen zu sehen, das voller Hoffnung vom Strand aus auf die offene See und die Wellen schaut.
Pollyanna steht für das Zusammenführen von Landschaften und Emotionen auf romantische Art und Weise und das Entdecken der Melancholie im Alltäglichen Leben.
Ihr zweites Album „On Concrete“ wurde auf dem Label „SONGS & WHISPERS“ veröffentlicht.
