Hey people! The Germans are cool with me! Loving the continent so far. The trip has gone smoothly considering the harsh realisation in Dublin airport that we didn't have any drivers license between us for when we got there! But, not to have our positivity swayed, we carried on hoping that somethin' or someone would save us from what would, in that case, be a very expensive trip by bus and train on the continent.
And saved we were! We met up with our newest music aficionado and Changing Band honorary member, Eric Nordby, in Mechelen, Belgium, and were able to strong arm him into using his license for a posh rental car with a navigational system that we simply call "The Future!"
First gig in Belgium was great craic. A little place called Kapelo Op Den Bos. Run by a lovely (half Irish) couple, Ireen and Eric! Great food and drink and it was a pity we didnt have muchtime to hang around and take the place in!
We did get a chance to explore Mechelen a little though! Took a walk down to the town square which was absolutely breathtaking. A church and a collection of bars and restaurants. Ya cant beat getting drunk whilst taking in a bit of European architecture eh? :)
On to Osnabruck yesterday then. Bigbuttinsky. A cool little venue in a cinema where all the bar staff seem to be studying some form of cognitive science! Treated to a slap up mean and some fine German beer when we arrived. Gig a little quiet but we had a whup up and the sound was flawless! Thanks to Dirk for putting us up in his apartment!
So all in all, it's been a fun three days. We havent had a chance to properly re charge yet but will be in the apartment in Bremen tomorrow so having a base will help! Getting to know Eric, our touring partner has been a craic (if he comes to Ireland you have to ask him to do his impression of a seal getting hit in the back of the head with a penny, hilarious) and playing on European stages is a real treat!
Breakfast time. Donal is making tea. Nice. Talk soon. Big love.
