''SONGS & WHISPERS '' - CIRCUIT 12/2013 (13.12. - 05.01.2014)
Ethan Godman's music finds a balance between the pop songwriting of The Beatles, the experimental nature of artists like Radiohead and David Bowie, the snarling wit of Elvis Costello and Arctic Monkeys and the distortion and energy of 90's indie-rock bands Elastica and Pavement.
Goodman hails from Los Angeles, California. By the time he was sixteen he had performed at most all of the Hollywood rock venues with his band “My Dolls”. Their song “Set You Up” was a popular spin on Rodney Bingenhiemer’s Rodney on the ROQ. After supporting The Romantics at a huge benefit in South Florida, My Dolls called it quits.
Soon after, Godman started another band with My Dolls guitarist V Witkin and soon hit the road with their new venture “Blame Ruby”. After a handful of L.A. gigs, Blame Ruby embarked on a UK tour as support for UK creep-rockers Babybird. Upon returning to the States, the band played more shows but soon dissolved due to artistic differences.

Producer and long time friend Smoke of OlDominion coined Poeina Suddarth’s genre as subdued thrasher bluegrass. Although Poeina has been inspired by and closely knit into the Northwest hip-hop community: her solo music has been more often compared with Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday. Touring for any musician can be a difficult challenge. That challenge is multiplied for singer-songwriter Poeina Suddarth. This last year Suddarth toured the states on her Trains, Planes and Automobiles tour, relying solely on the rides from kind fans, strangers and truckers to and from shows, while piecing together pick up bands in each city to sit in on her gigs. Poeina named this 20+ pool of musicians her Lucid Dreamers: they grace her with their talents and are in control of their own dreams as musicians. From the many musicians Poeina has played with she has put together an all-star cast of musicians to join her in Europe. The Lucid Dreamers for this tour are: Frankie Linderman on percussion and backup vocals, from Portland (originally from Paris, France); Thomas Deakin on trumpet from Seattle, WA; Jake Saunders on Cello from Boise, ID and Schuyler Neilson on bass from Portland, OR. Unable to hitch hike to Europe Poeina & the Lucid Dreamers successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money to tour in Europe for the “SONGS & WHISPERS” CIRCUIT tour in Germany.

Den Anstoß zur Solokarriere bekam Poeina Suddarth von Rapper Onry Ozzborn, bei dem sie Background-Sängerin war: „Es ist jetzt an der Zeit, Du bist ein Star und musst Dir Dein eigenes Publikum erobern!“ Seitdem hat sich die Amerikanerin mit dem großen Stimmumfang ein beachtliches Publikum in den USA erspielt, das sich von der Vielfalt aus hoher Emotioniltät, gepaart mit einer subtilen „Rotzigkeit“ anstecken ließ.
Obwohl Suddarth von der Hip-Hop Gemeinschaft Ihrer Heimat den USA beeinflusst wurde, wird ihr musikalisches Schaffen eher mit Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckely und Billie Holiday verglichen.
Das Touren kann für Musiker eine große Herausforderung sein – für Singer-Songwriter Suddarth ist die Herausforderung um ein Vielfaches größer: Auf ihrer „Trains, Planes and Automobiles“ Tour in 2012 verließ sie sich allein auf Mitfahrgelegenheiten durch freundliche Fans und Trucker zu den Shows.
