“Being together makes us less alone”, that’s what Eric Van den Broeck must have thought. The Belgian singer and songwriter has been known under the name „The Monotrol Kid“ since September 2008 and last year, he published his first album „What About The Finches“ as a solo-artist. Now the lonely life on tour is over. Erik Van den Broeck has found some of the most talented musicians of Belgium and has changed The Monotrol Kid into a new band. There is Philip Mathuis, on the drums and Indra Boone playing the guitar, and Nele Van den Broeck (who is not related to the head of the band in any way). She has been known in Belgium and Germany as Nele Needs A Holiday.While the songs on Van den Broeck’s first album were still dreamy in a singer-songwriter style, the four songs on the EP “The Merchant”, which will be published in April, show a completely new side of “The Monotrol Kid”. Going more in the direction of Folk-Rock/Americana, and now played by a complete band, the songs become more powerful. In combination with Erik’s distinctive voice, they are similar to famous bands like R.E.M. or Wilco. This year, the new album „My Talk My Song“ by The Monotrol Kid will be published by the label „SONGS & WHISPERS“. Before that happens, you should see the band at one of their concerts. Their big tour takes The Monotrol Kid through Belgium and France and to Germany where they will show that they are a charismatic live-band.
„Zusammen ist man weniger allein“, das dachte sich wohl auch Erik Van den Broeck. Bereits seit September 2008 ist der belgische Singer-Songwriter unter dem Namen The Monotrol Kid unterwegs und veröffentlichte noch im vergangenen Jahr sein erstes Album „What About The Finches“ als Solo-Künstler. Nun aber ist es vorbei mit dem einsamen Tourleben. Erik Van den Broeck hat sich einige der talentiertesten Musiker Belgiens mit an Bord geholt und The Monotrol Kid als Band einer Rundumerneuerung unterzogen. Neben Philip Mathuis am Schlagzeug und Indra Boone an der Gitarre, komplettiert Nele Van den Broeck (mit dem Frontmann übrigens weder verwandt noch verschwägert) das neue Line-Up. Sie konnte auch als Nele Needs A Holiday Bekanntheit in Belgien und Deutschland sammeln.
Präsentierte Van den Broeck auf seinem Debütalbum noch verträumte Stücke im Singer-Songwriter-Stil, zeigen die vier Songs auf der im April erscheinenden EP „The Merchant“ eine ganz neue Seite von The Monotrol Kid. Mit einer stärkeren musikalischen Orientierung in Richtung Folk-Rock/Americana, sowie der Unterstützung einer vollen Band im Rücken, entfalten die Lieder erst ihre ganze Kraft und erinnern vor allem auch in Kombination mit Eriks markanter Stimme an so namhafte Künstler wie R.E.M. oder Wilco.
Noch in diesem Jahr wird das neue Album „My Talk My Song“ von The Monotrol Kid auf dem Label „SONGS & WHISPERS“ veröffentlicht, vorher sollte man unbedingt die Chance nutzen die Band auf einem ihrer Konzerte zu besuchen. Ihre ausgedehnte Tour führt The Monotrol Kid neben Belgien und Frankreich natürlich auch nach Deutschland, wo sie ihre Qualitäten als charismatische Live-Band unter Beweis stellen werden.
